Prescription Opioids/Opiate Investigations and Overdose Response Training – Polk County
The U.S. Attorney’s Office partnered with DEA’s Miami Field Division to present “Prescription Opioids/Opiate Investigations and Overdose Response” training for law enforcement and first responders. One hundred twenty attendees from numerous agencies attended the class at Polk State College hosted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
This course has been designed to offer basic safety familiarization related to opioids/opiates and enforcement encounters for law enforcement officers, first responders, and evidence technicians that respond to or investigate drug overdose deaths.
Topics covered during the eight-hour training included trafficking trends and drug identification including opioids, opiates, fentanyl, and carfentanil; prescription drug investigations and the role of the DEA tactical diversion squad; DEA’s clandestine laboratory team; the Dark Web and Bitcoin investigations; officer safety related to opioid/opiate handling; and potential hazards during enforcement operations.
Due to the overwhelming response we have received from participants, the USAO is working with DEA and local law enforcement agencies to deliver this course around the district; this was our third presentation. For upcoming training opportunities, please visit our training page.
