Protecting Places of Worship
In 2019, the U.S. Attorney’s Civil Rights Working Group delivered three Protecting Places of Worship forums (Ocala, Jacksonville, and Tampa) involving more than 500 participants. The PPOW program engages faith leaders, law enforcement and public safety personnel, and those charged with the responsibility of protecting our faith institutions. Discussions included strategies and methods for preventing and responding to violent incidents targeting places of worship, hate crimes statistics and investigations, legal issues, active shooter awareness, infrastructure and security planning, and victim concerns. The goal of the CRWG is to prevent, educate, enforce, investigate and enforce bias-motivated crimes.
