For Immediate Release
U.S. Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida
Fort Myers, FL – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces the arrest of Carlos Alberto Calderon Johnson (64, Lehigh Acres) in connection with an indictment charging him with making a false statement in connection with a passport application. If convicted, Calderon Johnson faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
According to the indictment, in October 2019, Calderon Johnson submitted an application for a U.S. passport which, among other things, falsely identified himself as “Francisco Javier Maldonado.”
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Simon R. Eth.
