Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. sentenced Kevin Porter (27, Melbourne) yesterday to 60 months in federal prison for distribution of child pornography. Porter was also ordered to serve a 10-year term of supervised release upon completion of his prison sentence and must register as a sex offender. The court also ordered Porter to forfeit his computer equipment.
Porter was found guilty on August 21, 2013.
According to court documents, in April 2012, Porter distributed child pornography over the Internet via a peer-to-peer file sharing program. Law enforcement officers conducted a search of Porter’s home and found that he used his computer to possess images and movies of minor children being sexually abused and exploited.
This case was investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). It was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Myrna Amelia Mesa.
It is another case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
