Alex G. Tse
United States Attorney
Mr. Tse became Acting United States Attorney on January 7, 2018. Prior to his current position, Mr. Tse was the First Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of California, a position he held since February of 2016. Prior to being First Assistant, Mr. Tse was the Chief of the Civil Division since late 2012.
Following law school, Mr. Tse worked as a litigation associate at two large national law firms based in San Francisco. In 1994, he returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as an AUSA in the Civil Division where he handled both affirmative and defensive cases. He was promoted to Deputy Civil Division Chief in 2001, serving as a supervisor and handling affirmative cases under the False Claims Act. Mr. Tse left the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2006 to work at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, supervising the team responsible for code enforcement and civil gang injunctions. Mr. Tse held that position until 2012 when he returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as Chief of the Civil Division.
From 2013 through 2016, Mr. Tse served on the Court’s Civil Local Rules Attorney Advisory Committee. He was on the Magistrate Judge Selection Panel in 2016, and in 2017, was appointed to chair the Magistrate Judge Reappointment Panel. Since 2016 to present, he has been on the Court’s Criminal Rules and Practice Committee, and is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Criminal Justice Advisory Council.
Mr. Tse is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
