Previously Convicted Felon Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison For Armed Robbery While Out on Parole

CLEVELAND – A 45-year-old man with a history of criminal conduct has been sentenced for robbing a local retail establishment and threatening employees with violence at gunpoint. 

Gary Crump, of Cleveland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David A. Ruiz to 120 months (10 years) in prison after pleading guilty in May to:

• Interference with Commerce by Robbery
• Using or Carrying and Brandishing a Firearm During a Crime of Violence

He was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release after imprisonment. 

According to court documents and evidence presented before the judge, on Dec. 11, 2025, at approximately 7:25 p.m., police responded to an armed robbery at a Family Dollar neighborhood store on W. 130^th Street in Cleveland. The suspect, who was later identified as Crump, was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask as he approached the register and put a black handgun to the clerk’s stomach and demanded that she open the cash register. Crump ripped the cash register till from the machine and then fled on foot with stolen cash. Officers observed fresh footprints in the snow headed southbound on W. 130^th from the scene. A GPS tracker hidden in the stack of money the defendant took indicated that it was located at a residence on Wilton Road in Cleveland, about half a mile from the scene of the robbery. During a search warrant executed at the residence, investigators found Crump and also recovered $400 in cash. Investigators also seized a loaded Hi-Point CF 380 semi-automatic pistol, which was later determined to be stolen. During the investigation, agents also learned that Crump was on parole for a previous aggravated robbery.

This case was investigated by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Cleveland Division of Police. 

The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Scott Zarzycki for the Northern District of Ohio.
