For Immediate Release
U.S. Attorney's Office, District of New Jersey
NEWARK, N.J. – John Giordano announced today that he will be stepping down as U.S. Attorney for his new role as U.S. Ambassador.
“I thank President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their trust and confidence in me as U.S. Attorney. Serving President Trump and the citizens of my home state of New Jersey has been a great honor. I am particularly proud of the impactful and meaningful work of this office and our law enforcement partners to uphold the rule of law and safeguard our nation. I look forward to continuing to serve the President in my forthcoming role, and I remain committed to advancing the important work of his Administration.”
U.S. Attorney John Giordano
During his tenure, Giordano led the office in prosecuting significant and complex cases for the District of New Jersey. Under his leadership, the office worked closely with the dedicated and talented men and women of our law enforcement community to take back America. Giordano aggressively targeted violent gang activity, human trafficking networks, illegal immigration, and the ability of cartels to flood our streets with fentanyl and other deadly drugs. Giordano made it very clear, notably through both the conviction of individuals attempting to support ISIS and the extradition to the District of New Jersey of a dual Russian and Israeli national on charges he was a developer of the LockBit ransomware group, that if you commit crimes against the United States regardless of where you hide, we will find you and bring you to justice.
As the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Mr. Giordano oversaw all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving federal interests in the State. With offices in Newark, Camden, and Trenton, he supervised a dedicated staff of approximately 153 federal prosecutors and 104 support personnel.
Following the departure of U.S. Attorney Giordano, Alina Habba will serve as the new U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.
