The indictment charges Joshua Holmes, Coleshia Carter and Torrance Miller with theft of mail, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. According to the indictment, the United States alleges (among other things) that the defendants were involved with stealing mail from mailboxes belonging to local Augusta Businesses from April 2023 through January 2024. The defendants would then take business checks from the stolen mail and either deposit the business checks, and withdraw the proceeds through bank fraud, counterfeiting and depositing the business checks and withdrawing the proceeds, or selling the business checks for others to deposit and withdraw the proceeds. Due to the numerous times the postal boxes were broken into there was large quantities of mail stolen and therefore numerous victims in excess of 400.
Victims of the charged offenses have received separate notice of their rights under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act of 2004, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 3771. These rights apply only to victims of the counts charged in federal court.

On January 07, 2026, defendant Joshua Holmes pled guilty to charges related to stolen mail and bank and identity fraud. Any remaining counts will be disposed of at the time of sentencing. As a result of the guilty plea, there will be no trial involving this defendant.
The trial previously scheduled for defendants Torrance Miller and Coleshia Carter on February 9, 2026 has been cancelled. On February 03, 2026, defendant Torrance Miller pled guilty to theft or receipt of stolen mail. On February 05, 2026, defendant Coleshia Carter pled guilty to a charge related to fraud and related activity - id documents. Any remaining counts against the defendants will be disposed of at the time of sentencing. It is helpful for the Court to know the impact of this crime on its victims.
