Putnam County Man Sentenced to Prison for Fentanyl Crimes

For Immediate Release
U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Demetrius Fitzgerald Green, also known as “D,” 42, of Scott Depot, was sentenced today to six years and two months in prison, to be followed by four years of supervised release, for three counts of distribution of 40 grams or more of a mixture containing fentanyl.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on February 18, 2026, February 27, 2026, and March 18, 2026, Green sold quantities of fentanyl exceeding 40 grams during each transaction in Charleston.

Investigators determined that Green was responsible for distributing just under 400 grams of fentanyl. Green is among eight individuals indicted following a federal investigation of fentanyl trafficking in the Charleston area. Four defendants pleaded guilty in the main indictment, and another pleaded guilty to separate charges arising from the investigation. The main indictment is pending against one defendant, and the remaining defendant is deceased. An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Green has a criminal history that includes prior convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

United States Attorney Moore Capito made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), which is composed of the Charleston Police Department, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Nitro Police Department, the St. Albans Police Department, and the South Charleston Police Department.

United States District Judge Irene C. Berger imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe prosecuted the case.
