Community Outreach Initiatives in the Western District of Michigan

Community outreach is a fundamental part of the Department of Justice’s approach to fighting crime and protecting and defending people’s rights. Community outreach and engagement in this District take many forms, including Department of Justice initiatives, state-wide and district-wide initiatives, law enforcement training, listening tours, community meetings and educational presentations.

Some outreach initiatives include:

School Safety

Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust (ALPACT)

Native American initiatives, including Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings on combating sexual assault and annual government to government meetings.

Law enforcement training

Domestic Violence Community Coordinated Response Team (DVCCRT)

Media events/press conferences

Educational Outreach in the areas of bullying, social media, and internet safety
