Community Outreach Initiatives in the Western District of Michigan

Community Outreach is a fundamental part of the Department of Justice’s approach to fighting crime and protecting and defending the rights and interests of the citizens of the Western District of Michigan. Community Outreach in this district takes many different forms, including Department of Justice initiatives, state wide and district wide initiatives, law enforcement training, listening tours, community meetings and educational presentations.

Some of the outreach initiatives and meetings we are involved in on a regular basis include:

School Safety

Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crime (MIAAHC)

Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust (ALPACT)

Native American Initiatives, including Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings on combating sexual assault and annual government to government meetings.

Law Enforcement Training

Domestic Violence Community Coordinated Response Team (DVCCRT)

Media Events/Press Conferences

Educational Outreach in the areas of Bullying, Social Media and Internet Safety

“Justice Scholars”  Middle School Program on the Criminal Justice System and Criminal Justice Careers

Grand Rapids Community Re-Entry Coordinating Council
