Man Sentenced For Possession Of Stolen Firearm On Hannahville Reservation

           MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Marco Antonio Arteaga, 20, of Wilson, Michigan, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for possession of a stolen firearm, U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr. announced today. In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell ordered Arteaga to serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison, and to pay a $100 special assessment. Arteaga pled guilty to the charge last October.

 

           The investigation into Arteaga’s activities stemmed from an unrelated assault in which a 12 year-old child had a gun pointed at his head. Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the gun used in that incident, as well as other guns, had been stolen from a residence on the Hannahville reservation. One of the stolen firearms was found in Arteaga’s house underneath his mattress. Arteaga ultimately admitted to concealing two of the firearms that had been stolen in his residence.

           The Hannahville Indian Community Tribal Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, and the Menominee County Sheriff Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner prosecuted the case..
