ICITAP Supports Central American Medical Examiners on Opioid-Related Death Investigations

On October 22, ICITAP’s Senior Forensic Advisor completed three days of coordination for a Central American delegation of medical examiners from Panama, Costa Rica, and Honduras at the 53rd Annual Meeting of the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) in Kansas City. ICITAP hosted side meetings with the Central Americans on future ICITAP activities in the region as well as learn about new good practices in the toxicological analysis of synthetic opioids related to death investigations. NAME is the premier professional organization for medical examiners, forensic pathologists, and medicolegal affiliates and administrators. NAME's vision is accomplished through leadership, education, collaboration, advocacy, outreach, publication, and research. ICITAP’s attendance supported the forensic component of the interagency agreement for Central America with the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
