Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro “Ali” Mayorkas

On April 14, the Office welcomed back former United States Attorney and current Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro “Ali” Mayorkas.  Secretary Mayorkas is the first member of the Office to serve as a member of the President’s cabinet.  He began his career in public service as a rookie in the Office and served as General Crimes Chief and, ultimately, as the United States Attorney from 1998 to 2001.  Secretary Mayorkas spoke about his experiences in the Office, how it developed him as a leader, and his experience as a member of the President Biden’s cabinet. He shared that his best advice was to know that your “most important business card is the work that leaves your desk” and to always recognize adversity as an “opportunity for elegance.”
