
Daniel Hanlon
Daniel Hanlon is the Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York. As Acting U.S. Attorney, Mr. Hanlon is the chief federal law enforcement officer responsible for all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the United States in the Northern District of New York, an area covering 32 counties. He leads a staff of over 106 attorneys and support personnel to accomplish this mission.
Immediately prior to his appointment, Mr. Hanlon served as the Office’s First Assistant U.S. Attorney, and during his 17 years with the Office he has also served as the Criminal Chief, Deputy Criminal Chief and Narcotics Chief/ Organized Crime/Drug Enforcement Task Force Coordinator.
Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Hanlon was an Assistant District Attorney in the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office. In his 11 years with that Office, he served as Chief Assistant District Attorney and the Narcotics Bureau Chief.
Mr. Hanlon has prosecuted a wide array of crimes and offenses during his career with a focus on organized crime, violent crime, and drug trafficking offenses.
Mr. Hanlon earned his law degree from Albany Law School, and his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
