On June 13, 2016, U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez joined KANW General Manager Michael Brasher and Albuquerque Journal Investigative Reporter Mike Gallagher for a special broadcast on New Mexico’s heroin and opioid epidemic. The broadcast was a prequel for the KANW/Albuquerque Journal live public forum on heroin and opioid prevention and education to be broadcast by KANW and co-hosted by HOPE Initiative partners, U.S. Attorney Martinez and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Larson, UNM Health Sciences Center, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on June 15, 2016.

Session two of the 2016 Camp Triumph Summer Youth Prevention Program took place at Isleta Pueblo on June 20-23, 2016. Camp Triumph is a youth drug, gang and gun violence prevention effort that began 20 years ago and is operated as part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program in Bernalillo County which has an urban Indian focus. Victim Witness Advocate and Law Enforcement Coordinator Specialist Skrepcinski attended the New Mexico Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Task Force meeting on April 6th, 2017. The task force focuses on working with law enforcement to help trafficking victims with resources and not arrest victims/sex workers.

Aja Nicole Brooks, the statewide Pro Bono Coordinator for New Mexico Legal Aid’s Volunteer Attorney Program, was the special guest at the USAO’s Black History Month SEPM Event. Ms. Brooks discussed “Diversity in the Legal Profession: The State of our State.” The event was coordinated by AUSA Shammara Henderson, who serves as the Special Emphasis Program Manager (SEPM) for Black Affairs Program in the USAO’s ABQ office, and Legal Assistant Jessica Masoner.
