Indian Country Law Enforcement Coordination and Community Outreach – Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women’s Third Annual Tribal Leaders Summit

The Tribal Leaders Summit, held at Sandia Pueblo on June 21-22, 2016, convened tribal leaders and focuses on the federal, state and tribal laws that address and respond to violence in New Mexico tribal communities.  U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez delivered opening remarks at the Summit on June 21, 2016, during which he discussed what the Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney’s Office are doing to address the epidemic of violence against Native American women and children.  On June 22, 2016, Assistant U.S. Attorney/Tribal Liaison David Adams delivered a presentation on investigating and prosecuting domestic violence cases on the federal and tribal level.  The presentation included a discussion on prevention and education strategies to help break the cycle of intimate partner violence.  Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Nayback, Victim Advocates Toya and Vandever, and Media/Outreach Assistant Alyssa Ferda also participated in the Summit.
