Colombia: ICITAP Commences Training to Help Improve Investigators’ Abilities to Solve Crimes of War and Crimes Against Humanity

On June 20, the ICITAP-Colombia mission provided an update on its efforts to strengthen Colombia’s investigative capacity to solve crimes of war and crimes against humanity. In May and June throughout two phases, ICITAP-Colombia, through the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL)-supported Rural Justice Program, facilitated the training of approximately 17 investigators from the Investigation and Prosecution Unit for the Special Jurisdiction for the Peace also referred to as the JEP. The students participated in practical exercises throughout the course involving the identification of witnesses and victims and implementing the use of new and advance tools and digital evidence. This training effort will assist the Colombian counterparts in the apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for crimes against humanity. In Colombia, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with INL.
