From June 2 to 3, 2021, representatives from ICITAP-Indonesia and DOJ’s Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) traveled to Nganjuk and Surabaya in East Java. Surabaya is the second-largest city in Indonesia, and the East Java region (population 39.7 million) has the third-highest number of TIP prosecutions in all of Indonesia. ICITAP and OPDAT met with representatives from the Nganjuk District Prosecutor's Office, the East Java High Prosecutor's Office, and the Indonesian National Police's Human Trafficking Unit at the East Java Police Headquarters. Discussions focused on critical issues regarding TIP investigations, cooperation between prosecutors and police investigators, and opportunities for ICITAP and OPDAT to expand much-needed TIP training in the East Java region. These meetings were part of an ongoing effort that has provided training to other areas within Indonesia. The collaboration looks to expand the ICITAP-OPDAT outreach to address critical training needs addressing TIP issues.
