Jordan: ICITAP Facilitates Visit of Female Police Delegation to Madison Police Department to Discuss Gender Mainstreaming and Counterterrorism

From June 5 to 9, ICITAP’s Engaging Multinational Police Women on Equality and Rights (EMPoWER) team hosted a 12-person delegation from Jordan that included male and female Colonels and Captains from multiple police directorates and the Special Branch Section at the Women Police Command. Throughout the week the delegation engaged in dialogue on topics such as professional standards and internal investigations; gender mainstreaming policies and procedures; and defense and arrest tactics. The delegation also had the opportunity to interact with the Chief of the Madison Police Department, meet with the Mayor of Madison, and join the Madison PD on ride-alongs led by female patrol officers. The delegation kicked the week off by providing their own presentations that highlighted institutions that counter extremism, key responsibilities of the Jordan Gender Office, Gender Mainstreaming, and the Gender Branch Action Plan. Next steps for EMPoWER Jordan include working with the Special Branch to ensure they have the tools and training needed to successfully address counterterrorism and stand up the Gender Branch.
