Mission
NDDS’ mission is to identify, investigate, and prosecute the most significant international narcotics trafficking organizations in the world. These international narcotics trafficking organization are targeted because they have a substantial effect on the supply of drugs in the United States; they cause violence, corruption, illicit finances and instability in the countries that manufacture or act as a transshipment point for the international narcotics trade; or they are actively involved in financing terrorism or terrorist organizations that threaten interests of the United States throughout the world.
To achieve its mission, NDDS attorneys (1) work closely with other federal law enforcement and intelligence community headquarters components located in the Nation’s capital to marshal and exploit all available intelligence, law enforcement, and other resources to pursue these organizations; (2) indict and prosecute cutting edge cases that take full advantage of the most innovative investigative techniques and legal theories; (3) coordinate multidistrict and international investigations and prosecutions of these organizations; and (4) educate federal prosecutors around the country and overseas about the resources, techniques, and long-arm statutes available to combat the threat posed by these international organizations.
