This position is located in the Criminal Division, Special Prosecutions Unit. Assignments may include the investigation and prosecution of child sexual abuse and exploitation, human trafficking, cybercrime, fraud-related offenses, border security, and national security matters.
The Criminal AUSA position offers a unique and challenging experience for a highly motivated team player with the desire to litigate extensively. Applicants must demonstrate analytical ability, good judgment, organizational skills, excellent writing, and communication and courtroom skills. In addition, applicants must exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with courthouse personnel, other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
This is a permanent position; however, all initial attorney positions are filled on a 14-month (temporary) basis, pending adjudication of the background investigation.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Outstanding academic record; criminal prosecution or defense experience in complex child exploitation, sexual abuse, and human trafficking investigations; litigation experience in trial and/or appellate advocacy; experience with the use of legal process (such as subpoenas and search warrants), especially in gathering electronic evidence; technical knowledge of computers, networking, and investigative technologies (such as tracing Internet communications); exceptional research and writing ability; the ability to represent successfully the interests of the United States in federal court; the ability to handle and manage effectively a heavy case load involving complex cases.
