D.C. Safe & Beautiful Task Force

DC Safe Task Force

“The Era of Unchecked Violence is Over” – U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro

On March 28, 2025, President Trump issued the Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful executive order: a sweeping directive aimed at asserting federal authority over the nation’s capital to address concerns regarding crime, public order, and urban aesthetics. The order establishes the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, a federal body authorized to surge law enforcement presence in public spaces, strictly enforce "quality-of-life" laws, and maximize federal immigration enforcement within the District. The executive order represents the President’s unwavering commitment to restoring law & order and is delivering a transformative impact for the people of Washington, D.C., the city that belongs to all Americans.

As a result of the law enforcement surge in the District, over 13,100 arrests have been made and 1,400 guns have been taken off the streets. In addition to policing, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, under the leadership of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, is prosecuting crime like never before. Fewer than 10% of cases are going unprosecuted compared to almost 70% of cases that went unprosecuted under the last administration.

When laws are enforced, communities are safer. In 2025, homicides dropped 60%, robberies dropped 49%, carjackings dropped 68%, and overall crime dropped 32%.

“These achievements did not happen in a vacuum. They are the result of bold policies championed by President Donald Trump, empowering us to enforce the law without apology,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro. “And to the criminals who thought D.C. was an easy target: those days are over. To the residents of D.C., your safety is our priority, and we’re just getting started.”

The enhanced federal law enforcement partnership made possible thanks to President Trump and the Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful executive order has also allowed for the dismantling of high profile gangs, and drug trafficking rings in the District.

Under U.S. Attorney Pirro, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is charging narcotics traffickers for the deaths their drugs cause in addition to the trafficking offenses they commit. “We are not letting them get away with their poison,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro. These arrests and their prosecutions were made possible thanks to the partnerships with the DEA and FBI.

Thanks to these federal partners and the thousands of law enforcement personnel involved in the D.C. Safe & Beautiful Task Force, the District has seen a historic reduction in crime. The momentum built in 2025 is being continued with downward trends in crime in 2026. Homicides are down 50%, robberies are down 42%, carjackings are down 60%, and overall crime is down 25%.
