Mexican National Living in Sacramento Sentenced to Over 10 Years in Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Luis Vasquez-Lopez, 47, a Mexican national residing in Sacramento, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb to 10 years and one month in prison for possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute, Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith announced.

According to court documents, on May 22, 2023, law enforcement officers conducted a stop of Vasquez-Lopez’s vehicle in Sacramento. During the stop, they located a large brick of fentanyl, a digital scale with residue on it, and a loaded 9 mm handgun.

This case was the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF), and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hitt prosecuted the case.
