2024 Safety Education Fair at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind
On February 21, 2024, USAO-MDFL Community Outreach Specialist Khalilah Escalera, along with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ashley Washington, Elisabeth Adams, Tiffany Nick, and Alex Karahalios participated in the Annual Safety Education Fair at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine. FSDB is a fully accredited, tuition-free state public school for eligible Pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired, or deafblind.
Each year, FSDB hosts an event designed to raise public awareness and provide personal safety information for students. As part of the event, attendees took the Student Pledge Against Gun Violence. The Pledge is part a national program that honors the role that young people, through their own decisions, can play in reducing gun violence. Various public safety professionals and agencies were onsite to provide students with information about careers in public safety. More than 500 students, teachers, school officials, and public safety professionals participated in this year’s event.
