2025 National Reentry/Second Chances Month
For the second consecutive year, the USAO-MDFL partnered with the Orange County Corrections to facilitate the Reentry Simulation exercise as a training opportunity for corrections staff. Fifty-three Orange County Corrections (OCC) staff and more than 20 additional community volunteers and staff participated in the event intended to provide a realistic glimpse into the challenges faced by individuals and their families as previously incarcerated persons return home. OCC Deputy Chief Anthony Watts welcomed participants and volunteers to the event and detention facility. USAO-MDFL Reentry and Community Outreach Coordinator Khalilah Escalera moderated the event and, along with Unit Supervisor Jammy Hill, provided instructions on how to navigate the various phases of the exercise. The simulation event is designed to reduce recidivism and violent crime in communities. Additional partners included Osceola County Corrections, Seminole County Corrections, Orange County Government (4C programs), Inside Out Jail Ministries, Recovery Connections, New Life Transitional Home, the Peace Education Program, and the Orange County Library System.
