Press Release
Omaha Man Sentenced for Illegal Possession of a ‘Glock Switch’ Machine Gun
For Immediate Release
U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Nebraska
Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen announced that Ty’nell D. Jimmerson, 20, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced on March 27, 2025, in federal court in Omaha for illegal possession of a machine gun. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Jimmerson to 32 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After Jimmerson’s release from prison, he will begin a 3-year term of supervised release.
On July 28, 2024, Omaha Police Officers observed a Jeep speeding and driving recklessly near 60th and Ames Streets. As officers approached, the Jeep fled. OPD helicopter Able-1 followed the Jeep to Orchard Park. Officers in Able-1 saw the Jeep enter the park and pull into a public-access parking stall. Ty’nell Jimmerson ran from the Jeep to a nearby group of trees on the edge of the parking lot where he discarded a loaded Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun. The gun contained a high-capacity magazine and was equipped with a ‘Glock switch’ machine gun conversion device (‘MCD’). The device converts the weapon to a fully automatic machine gun. The firearm had previously been reported stolen during a vehicle break-in.
After concealing the firearm, Jimmerson got into the back seat of a waiting Nissan. Both vehicles left the park. Able-1 followed the Nissan to 90th Street and Blair High Road where OPD conducted a traffic stop and arrested Jimmerson.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Omaha Police Department.
