BUFFALO, N.Y. -- U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Donald Hargrave, 62, of Douglasville, GA, who was convicted of unlawfully receiving Title II Child Insurance Benefits, was sentenced to two years probation by Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. The defendant was also ordered to pay $39,124 in restitution.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott S. Allen, Jr., who handled the case, stated that between May 2012 and July 2013, while living in Buffalo, the defendant received Title II Child Insurance Benefits from the Social Security Administration but did not use the benefits to support his son. Hargrave received a total of $39,124 to which he was not entitled.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Office of the Inspector General of the Social Security Administration, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Ryan.
