Hispanic Heritage Celebration

On October 25th, the Office’s Diversity Committee organized an informative panel discussion on the Sleepy Lagoon Trial of 1942 and the Zoot Suit Riots, events that marked two dark, but historic moments in Los Angeles’ Latino History. The panel, comprised of California Court of Appeal Justice Arthur Gilbert, UCLA Prof. Eric Avila, and journalist Beatriz Velasquez, discussed the intense media, judicial and public bias that surrounded these two significant events.
