Saima Mohsin – First Assistant United States Attorney

Saima Shafiq Mohsin is the First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. Mohsin is a career prosecutor who has more than 30 years’ experience in state and federal courts protecting the public from threats to national security, violence, organized criminal activity, corruption, theft and fraud, drug trafficking, child exploitation, and human trafficking. She previously served as the Acting United States Attorney and the First Assistant United States Attorney in the district. Prior to becoming a federal prosecutor, Ms. Mohsin served a Deputy Attorney General in the Organized Crime and Racketeering Bureau of the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office prosecuting complex organized crime cases, and as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan in a trial division.
Ms. Mohsin received her law degree from Rutgers Law School – Camden, and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science and economics from Rutgers University – New Brunswick.
Michael Martin - Criminal Division Chief
Michael Martin has been a federal prosecutor for 20 years. Prior to becoming Criminal Chief, he was Chief of the office’s National Security Unit, and was responsible for leading the district’s prosecution of national security and immigration cases. He has also served the office as Deputy Criminal Chief and Executive Assistant United States Attorney. Martin has tried all forms of national security cases, including terrorism, espionage, theft of trade secrets, export control, and smuggling. He has also prosecuted cases involving conspiracy to murder, gangs, drugs, and guns. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Martin was a trial attorney in the Counterespionage Section within the Department of Justice’s National Security Division.
Mr. Martin is a graduate of the Boston College Law School, where he was a member of the law review. After law school, he was a law clerk to the Honorable Hugh H. Bownes, United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Honorable Edward F. Harrington, United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Prior to law school, Martin served as an analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency.
Danielle Asher - Deputy Criminal Division Chief
Danielle Asher is the Deputy Criminal Chief for the Eastern District of Michigan. Before serving in this role, Ms. Asher was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Violent and Organized Crime Unit, specializing in complex gang prosecutions. Ms. Asher also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Ohio in the General Crimes Unit through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. After law school, Ms. Asher clerked for the Honorable Robert Holmes Bell and the Honorable Robert J. Jonker on the Western District of Michigan.
Ms. Asher received a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan School of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
Jessica Currie - Appellate Division Chief

Jessica Currie is the Chief of the Appellate Division. She joined the United States Attorney’s Office in 2019 and has served as an AUSA in both the Criminal and Appellate Divisions. Before becoming an AUSA, Jessica worked in private practice at the law firms of Dickinson Wright LLP and Bush Seyferth PLLC, both based in metro Detroit, where she specialized in appeals, class actions, and commercial litigation. Earlier in her legal career, Jessica clerked for Justice Brian Zahra of the Michigan Supreme Court and Judge Richard Allen Griffin of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Jessica earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and her law degree magna cum laude from the University of Toledo College of Law.
Kevin Erskine - Civil Division Chief

Kevin Erskine is the Chief of the Civil Division. Kevin has been an AUSA since 2015 and served as a SAUSA starting in 2010. As part of the Affirmative Litigation Unit, he led the office’s robust bankruptcy practice, protecting the United States’ interests in Chapter 7, 11, 12, and 13 bankruptcies. Kevin also handled real property matters and served as the unit’s Deputy Chief.
Prior to joining the office, Kevin was a Senior Attorney at the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel, a career law clerk to the Honorable Paul V. Gadola, III, and served as a pro bono attorney for a legal aid clinic. He is a Michigan State University Honors College graduate with degrees in chemistry and forensic science and received his law degree cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law. Before attending law school, Kevin was a Forensic Chemist with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Chicago, Illinois.
Veneshia Cezil - Administrative Officer

Veneshia Cezil graduated from Oakwood University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in political science. She returned to Michigan to attend Thomas M. Cooley Law School and graduated in 2008. After law school, Veneshia joined the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in the general trials unit where she prosecuted theft, assault, drug, and gun crimes. She was later transferred to WCPO’s Special Victims Unit where she prosecuted sexual assault crimes. In 2015 Veneshia joined the Michigan Department of Attorney General’s Children and Youth Services Division where she handled Child Abuse and Neglect Cases. Veneshia became the Chief of the Division in 2019 and later the Criminal Bureau Chief where she oversaw the Criminal, Health Care Fraud, Children and Youth Services, and Financial Crimes Divisions. Veneshia also served as the Department’s Chief of Operations where she oversaw all their Human Resources, Budgeting, and Facilities matters for over 500 staff members. She is currently serving as the office’s eLitigation AUSA as well as the Administrative Officer.
