United States Attorney Joseph D. Brown

Joseph D. Brown was sworn in as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas on February 26, 2018.    Nominated by President Donald J. Trump, Mr. Brown serves as the chief federal law enforcement officer in the Eastern District of Texas, an area covering 43 counties with a population of more than 3.5 million.   Mr. Brown is responsible for the prosecution of federal criminal offenses in the district, and represents the United States in all civil litigation in the district.

Prior to his appointment as United States Attorney, Mr. Brown served for 17 years as the elected Criminal District Attorney of Grayson County, Texas, prosecuting state law violations and representing the State of Texas.   From 2009 to 2014, Brown served as board member of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department where he helped to oversee the administration of Texas’ juvenile prison and probation system.    Mr. Brown began his career as an associate attorney for the Dallas law firm of Cowles and Thompson, P.C. where he represented businesses and individuals in civil litigation.

Mr. Brown graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in Government and received his juris doctorate degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
