Hammond Man Found Guilty After 3-Day Jury Trial

HAMMOND –Michael Swiger, age 41, of Hammond, Indiana was convicted of distribution and attempted distribution of child pornography after a three-day jury trial before United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson. 

Swiger was charged with distributing videos of child sexual abuse material over a social media application on April 4, 2022, and was also charged with possessing images and videos of child sexual abuse material on April 5, 2022. 

This case was the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (Chicago and St. Paul) with assistance from the Hammond Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Emily A. Morgan, Caitlin M. Padula, and Thomas M. McGrath.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In 2006, the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
