Chad Meacham

Chad E. Meacham was appointed United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas on Oct. 2, 2021 and served in the role until Dec. 10, 2022. He was selected again on Jan. 20, 2025 and currently serves in an Acting capacity.

He is the chief federal law enforcement officer for the district, which covers 96,000 square miles and a population of approximately eight million. Mr. Meacham oversees roughly 220 attorneys and staff across five division offices and is responsible for all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the United States government in the region.

Mr. Meacham has been a career prosecutor engaged in both trial and appellate work for over 32 years.  He has been with the Northern District since 1998 and has previously served as First Assistant, Criminal Chief, Deputy Criminal Chief, Lead OCDETF attorney and Lead Appellate attorney. In 2024, Mr. Meacham was named a Dallas Bar Association “Trial Lawyer of the Year.”

He received his J.D. degree from Texas Tech University, and his B.S. from the University of North Texas. He served in the Army Reserves from 1997 to 2005, during which time he received a Meritorious Service Medal (MSM).

He married a girl he has known since elementary school and has two grown children.
