PIERRE - United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced today that Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court, has sentenced a Pierre, South Dakota, man convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The sentencing took place on June 12, 2023. Sylvan Larrabee, age 31, was sentenced to 17 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Larrabee was indicted by a federal grand jury in February of 2023. He pleaded guilty on March 16, 2023. The conviction stems from conduct that occurred between December 9, 2022, and January 3, 2023, wherein Larrabee, who is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, and a sex offender by reason of a federal conviction for Sexual Contact with a Minor, did knowingly fail to register and update his registration. This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case. Larrabee was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
