ROCHESTER, N.Y.-U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. announced today that Christopher Everhardt, 31, of Ovid, NY, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with receiving and possessing child pornography. The charges carry a minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 20 years.

Assistant  U.S.  Attorney  John  J.  Field,  who  is  handling  the  case,  stated  that according to the complaint, over a period of at least two years, Everhardt downloaded and offered to trade multiple files containing photographs and videos of child pornography, some involving children as young as five years old.

The defendant made an initial appearance today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson and is being held. Everhardt is due back in court on September 3, 2015, at 9:00 a.m.

The  criminal  complaint  is  the  result  of/culmination  of  an  investigation  by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge J. Michael Kennedy.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
