Eduardo Perez Motta Biography

In August 2004 he was appointed Chairman of the Federal Commission on Competition (CFC)

Before joining the CFC, Pérez Motta was Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Mexico to the World Trade Organization, in charge of preparing Mexico's participation in the Doha Ministerial Conference (2001) and the Mexican Chairmanship at Cancún in 2003.

From 1998 to 2000, he acted as head of the Representation Office of the Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development (SECOFI) in Brussels, where he coordinated the Mexican team during the negotiation of the FTA between Mexico and the European Union.

Prior to his appointment in Brussels, Pérez Motta served as Chief of Advisors to the Minister of Trade and Industrial Development from 1996 to 1998.

In 1995, he worked in the Ministry of Finance as Chief of Advisors to the Under Secretary of Revenues, where he designed the Customs Law that entered into force in 1996.

During the early nineties, he held different responsibilities in SECOFI, among them: General Director for Foreign Trade Policy and General Director for Industrial Policy, where he participated in the Negotiation Committee for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from ITAM and has Doctorate studies in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
