Responsibilities
The Defense, Industrials, and Aerospace Section (DIA) is responsible for civil antitrust enforcement, competition advocacy, and competition policy in the areas of:
- Defense
- Avionics and aeronautics
- Industrial equipment (e.g., rail, plastics, commercial vehicles, etc.)
- Road and highway construction
- Metals and mining
- Waste industries

Federal and State Contacts
Defense and Intelligence: DIA reviews its defense industry mergers in conjunction with the Department of Defense and with the applicable military and intelligence branches affected by the proposed transaction or joint venture.
Regional and State Economies: In any review of transactions affecting regional economies, DIA works closely with the relevant state attorneys general. DIA has implemented a screening system for use by the state departments of transportation in their evaluation of the competitive effect of mergers in the highway construction industry.
International Matters: DIA often coordinates with foreign competition authorities in relation to cross-border investigations and to share knowledge about our industries.
