I N.C. I can not volunteer to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner unless I have a physician to sign my collaborative agreement. As a retired Family Nurse Practitioner, I choose to volunteer my time with the indigent population in High Point. The hospitals within N.C. have contracts with their physicians that will not allow collaboration with a Nurse Practitioner since I am not employed within their facility. Our local indigent population is in immediate need for health care at the local clinic, and I am unable to volunteer. In N.C. the Nurse Practitioners should not have these barriers to practice so that all of our residents have access to care.
