7.1 - Overview

While the vast majority of proceedings conducted by immigration judges are removal proceedings, immigration judges have jurisdiction over other kinds of proceedings as well.  This chapter provides a brief overview of these other kinds of proceedings.  They include:  

• deportation proceedings and exclusion proceedings
• rescission proceedings
• limited proceedings, including:
  • credible fear proceedings
  • reasonable fear proceedings
  • claimed status review
  • asylum-only proceedings 
  • withholding-only proceedings
• streamlined removal proceedings
