HEAT - Heroin Education Action Team

Mission

The mission of the U.S. Attorney’s Heroin Education Action Team (HEAT) is to increase community awareness and understanding about the growing heroin and opioid epidemic and its impact on Virginia families.  HEAT is a partnership between the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia and families who have lost a loved one to opioid overdose. These courageous families share their stories in order to help others avoid the grief of losing a family member to drug overdose.

Heroin and other opioids are readily available in every city and county in Virginia, with deadly consequences. The victims of this epidemic come from every race, socioeconomic class, and background. These drugs are killing Virginians without prejudice. It will take all of us, working together, to make a difference in our communities and increase understanding of this growing threat. Too many Virginia families have been robbed of a loved one and the cherished bonds of a stable family life by the scourge that is heroin and opioid addiction.
