Free, fair, secure, and accessible elections are the foundation of our democracy. 

Our republic depends on the operation of a free and fair electoral process, with results that are trustworthy and respected.  The Department of Justice has an important role in deterring and combatting discrimination and intimidation at the polls, threats of violence directed at election officials and poll workers, and election fraud.
