Elder Justice Initiative
The United States Attorney’s Office and Department of Justice (DOJ) are committed to combating elder abuse, neglect, financial fraud, and scams that target our nation’s Seniors. The Department of Justice Elder Justice Initiative engages in this work by focusing on the following mission areas:
- Building Federal, State and Local Capacity to fight Elder Abuse
- Promoting Justice for Older Americans
- Supporting Research to Improve Elder Abuse Policy and Practice
- Helping Older Victims and their families
As part of this initiative, the United State Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas is actively engaged in efforts to:
- Investigate and prosecute financial crimes targeting or disproportionately impacting Seniors
- Promote greater coordination with local, state and federal partners to combat Elder Abuse
- Provide training and resources to law enforcement to identify and respond to Elder Abuse
- Prevent Elder Financial Exploitation by increasing community awareness of frauds and scams
- Pursue nursing homes and other facilities that provide grossly substandard care to Seniors
