Shilesha Bamberg
Shilesha Bamberg is acting chief of staff at the Office on Violence Against Women. She joined the Biden administration in October 2021, when she led OVW’s policy, communications, and outreach efforts. Prior to OVW, she served for nearly five years as a legislative advisor to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. There, she led efforts to address youth and family homelessness. She also worked collaboratively with the Senate Finance Committee to secure more than $1 billion for children, youth, caregivers, and families, built diverse coalitions, and advanced legislation related to civil rights, crimes against women and children, and social services. She started her congressional service as a fellow for Women’s Congressional Policy Institute.
Shilesha held various leadership roles, including as deputy correspondence manager for Senator Brown. Under this role, she contributed to the strategic planning and development of workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion policies as well as served as an advisor on the Economic Justice task force. Prior to serving in the Senate, Shilesha served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), representing the best interests of children and youth in foster care. In her role as director of outreach for a nonprofit organization in 2018, she led nonpartisan efforts to increase voter engagement in Baltimore.
Shilesha earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from the University of Baltimore.
