Civil Division

 

Defensive Units represent the United States in civil actions. These matters include representing the United States in suits brought under the Federal Tort Claims Act, administrative appeals, and employment discrimination cases, as well as defending individual federal employees against constitutional tort claims.

Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit brings affirmative matters on behalf of the United States. AUSAs pursue civil rights cases and civil fraud and False Claims Act cases, which include defense contractor and health care fraud.

The Financial Litigation Program (FLP) Unit is staffed by Assistant U.S. Attorneys, staff, and investigators in Tucson and Phoenix. The primary mission of FLP is to recover debts owed to the federal government.
