Financial Litigation Program (FLP) Unit

FLP enforces monetary awards, both fines and restitution, ordered in civil judgments and criminal convictions. These awards compensate crime victims, both public and private.

Every year, FLP takes the following actions to return millions of dollars to victims of crime:

• Judgment Enforcement:  FLP is responsible for enforcing criminal judgments and court orders for restitution, fines, penalties, or other monetary sanctions. This may involve locating and seizing assets.
• Wage Garnishments: FLP can initiate wage garnishments, ensuring that debtors make regular payments to satisfy their debts through income deductions.
• Asset Recoveries: FLP can assist with identifying and selling assets belonging to debtors who refuse or fail to fulfill their financial obligations, such as real estate, vehicles, luxury items, and bank accounts.
• Negotiating Settlements: FLP staff negotiate settlements with debtors when appropriate, aiming to resolve outstanding financial obligations through payment arrangements.
• Pre-judgment Collaboration: FLP assists the Criminal Division before judgment is entered by preventing the dissipation of property, reviewing plea agreements, pursuing the early identification and recovery of available assets, and providing payment recommendations prior to sentencing.
