3.1 - Forms Generally

There are official forms that must be used to:

  • Appear as a practitioner of record.  See Chapter 5.3 (Entering an Appearance as the Practitioner of Record)
  • Disclose document assistance through limited appearance.  See Chapter 5.5 (Limited Appearance for Document Assistance)
  • Request most kinds of relief.  See 8 C.F.R. parts 299, 1299
  • File an appeal.  See Part III, Chapters 3 (Appeals of Immigration Judge Decisions), 8 (Visa Petitions), 9 (Fines)

There is an official form that should be used to:

  • File a practitioner or recognized organization complaint.  See Chapter 8.5 (Complaints)

There is no official form to:

  • File a Freedom of Information Request (FOIA) request or a Records Request.  See Chapter 6 (Records Requests)
